Melissa Price
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa
Dr. Price teaches graduate and undergraduate students in natural resource management with a focus on wildlife management and environmental problem solving. She is passionate about helping students to identify the difference they want to make in the world, while equipping them with the skills needed to solve complex challenges.
In her Wildlife Ecology & Management course students engage in case studies about our native and nonnative species, learning how to integrate knowledge, policy, management actions, and community values to identify optimal solutions for multidimensional problems. In the NREM senior capstone course, Environmental Problem Solving, students work in teams with a real-world decision maker to identify optimal solutions and predict outcomes for upcoming decisions. Finally, in the Graduate Seminar course students gather weekly with a cross-section of NREM faculty, students, and practitioners to learn about cutting edge research and develop their professional identity.
Dr. Price also mentors a number of graduate and undergraduate research projects in wildlife
management, and enjoys connecting students with local and global opportunities. Overall, Dr. Price is excited to bring together a collaborative community of researchers and practitioners who are working to transform the Hawaiian Islands from the ‘Extinction Capital of the World’ to the ‘Recovery Capital of the
World’.
