John Souza

Dr. John Souza, Jr. is a licensed marriage and family therapist, educator, and community advocate who has dedicated his career to bridging people, ideas, and environments in the service of relational health and social resilience. As an Assistant Professor in the Human Development and Family Science program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Dr. Souza brings over 15 years of clinical experience into the classroom, where he is recognized for his relationally centered, culturally responsive, and practice-based teaching.

His work weaves together applied research, legislative advocacy, and innovative training methods, including experiential supervision, deliberate practice, and ecologically-based therapy, to support the development of the next generation of systemic-relational healers. Whether mentoring future therapists, coordinating statewide mental health initiatives, or co-leading the development of a new graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy, Dr. Souza continues to cultivate learning spaces rooted in systems, relationships, and ecology.

Originally from Hawaiʻi and now returned home, he is honored to serve the people and places that raised him.
